Spring Season Update and Survey

May 22, 2020

Hello, ONLL Families!

We hope this email finds you and your family healthy! Unfortunately, the COVID restrictions still in place have necessitated the cancellation of not only spring ball but also Little League International World Series and Regional Tournaments. But there’s good news…our President, Bob McDermott, has worked tirelessly on a Fall Ball season for our players!

Historically, ONLL has not been able to host a Fall Ball season because of Pop Warner using our fields. However, the City of Oceanside has come alongside and secured alternative fields for our teams to play and practice on. The details are still being finalized, but here is a tentative outline of fall season play:

  • If your child played for ONLL Spring baseball, they will continue to play on the same team and in the same division. There will not be additional costs for the player to roll into Fall Ball.
  • Any vacancies (from players who don’t play in the fall) will be filled with players who did not play in the spring during open registration
  • No practices or games will be played at MLK; practices and games will be held at John Landes (uppers except Juniors), Sepulveda Park (AA) and Palisades Park (Farm & Tball). All Juniors games would be played at a visiting site
  • Dates:
  • July 25 – Fall registration opens online
  • August 1 – Registration closes (there will be no late registrations; no try-outs; new players will be assigned teams per the draft order from spring)
  • August 8 – Revised team rosters will be published
  • August 10 – Practices begin
  • September 8 – Regular games commence; Tuesdays and Saturdays will be game days for all divisions
  • November 7 – Closing Ceremonies
  • Player ages roll over from Spring, so 14 year old Juniors will still be able to play in the fall

We are very excited to be able to offer a Fall Ball season for our players this year that had their season cut way too short. However, we also recognize due to other sports and commitments, some players may not be able to play in the fall. For those situations, the League can offer a pro-rated refund of approximately 30%. Please note that the refund is pro-rated as our season had already begun, and included numerous large expenses including uniforms, fences, field prep, Charter fees, lights, team equipment, umpires, etc.). The final refund amount will be calculated once we know how many players will continue into the fall.

There have been some families that cannot play in the fall but have asked about donating their unused registration to the League. This is definitely an option (and tax-deductible!) so just let us know if that’s something you’d like to do.

But to make this all work, we need to hear from YOU! We need to know how many players are in to continue into the fall. So please take a few minutes to fill out a very quick survey to let us know which of the three options work for you. The survey closes Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 pm. Once responses are tallied, the Board will meet to plan next steps, and we will announce finalized plans as soon as we can.

Thank you so much for your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you on the field soon!!
