Hello ONLL Families,
First,
I would like to thank all of you for your patience and support during
these troubling times. This has been a whirlwind the last few months for
all of us.
It is with
great sadness that I am drafting this letter to all parents to inform
you that Oceanside National Little League will be cancelling the Fall
baseball season for 2020. An extreme amount of thought and
emotion has preceded the Board of Directors making this decision. In
light of the current state, county and local guidelines, restrictions
and directives still in place, we have concluded that it
is in the best interest, health and safety of our League, its players
and our families to not move forward with ONLL fall baseball. This
decision was partly based on the California Interscholastic Federation
(CIF) making the decision to shut down ALL high school athletics until
January 2021. Other restrictions and requirements would have also made proceeding with a Fall season impractical, if not impossible.
Even
though the season was halted early on, the season was in fact underway,
and there were a number of substantial expenses that the League
incurred and unfortunately cannot recover. Because of these
non-refundable expenses already incurred, the Board has voted to return a
prorated portion of 30% of the registration fee, plus the $40 raffle
fundraiser. Every single dollar the League collected for the 2020 Spring
season will be included in the prorated refunds. Each family will have
the option to elect either to receive the prorated refund, or
alternatively, to donate the 2020 registration fees/raffle fees to the
League to be used for future general operating and other ordinary
expenses that will be incurred in the future.
Below
is a link to a form to let us know if you would like to receive a
refund check or donate your refund to the League. Please respond to the
form by August 15 so we can complete the refunds, which will be issued
during the month of August. Checks will be mailed directly to the
address that you include on the form. Please keep in mind that your 30%
prorated refund will depend on what you actually paid for registration,
which may vary from player to player (i.e sibling discounts, early bird
discounts, etc.). We’ve included below a financial breakdown of money
that the League collected for 2020 spring baseball season. In addition,
you will see a breakdown of those expenses that the League cannot recoup
due to the season already underway when the COVID-19 shelter in place
order was implemented.
For
those that still have an interest in playing fall ball, there are
currently a few options for your player to potentially play fall ball. Little Leagues that have their own fields are still hoping to resume at some point this fall.
Here are the Leagues in district 70 that may still be offering Fall Ball:
Oceanside Valley Little League Oceanside American Little League Rancho Buena Vista Little League
Vista American Little League Vista National Little League
Despite
these current challenges, we are looking ahead to the 2021 Season, and
our Board is confident that the League and each of its valued players
will come back stronger and more enthusiastic than ever.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support for Little League Baseball in our community.
Bob McDermott, ONLL President
